The human figure, in its skin and with its emotions is the main topic in the paintings. The portrayed figures are in their own world, the world behind closed eyes. Serene and sorrowful.
The fare woman in a sweet and innocent pose and the worried man with the heavy head leaning on the hands, are examples of the way the persons are being portrayed in the paintings.
The hands are paramount.
Certain parts of the paintings are constructed from thick layers of oil paint. Monochrome and sculpture-like handling of the oil paint contribute to the impression of a sculpture on canvas. Because of the rough surface, the strokes of the oil paint are sensitive for light and shadow. By the use of contrast in texture, thick and thin, and in focus, blur and sharp, the hands, face or nude body are being emphasized.
